This year’s Hari Raya celebration is quite special for Splash! Few of our Malay colleagues were tasked to organise our internal annual Hari Raya celebration and proposed to value-add this celebration with an initiative that enables all Splashees to experience Ramadan in a day leading up to the Hari Raya celebration.
Splashees were invited to fast for the whole day, engage in “giving” to a social organisation, learn how to make ketupat and stroll down the bazaar to get break fast for everyone. With this initiative, however small it might seem to some, we have learned how as fellow Singaporeans, we can understand our Muslim colleagues or society better through this act, and also think about others who are less fortunate.
Besides understanding why do Muslims actually fast, we have also invited everyone to gather food items to donate to a social welfare organisation, so that we can all do our part to feed the less fortunate during Ramadan. This year’s Hari Raya celebration for us will be much more meaningful.
